About Words Online: Word-Building Board Game for 2 Players

Words Online is a word-building board game for 2 players. Spell words on a 15×15 board using letters from your tile rack, competing against a friend, the computer, or players from around the world via the Internet. The player with the higher score when all tiles have been played wins.

How to Play Words Online: Collect the Highest Number of Points

Each player starts with 7 tiles. On any given turn, a player may create a word, exchange tiles (when more than 7 spare tiles remain), pass, or resign. The first word must be placed vertically or horizontally so that one tile lands on the central START square. Every subsequent word must share at least one tile with a word already on the board.

The tile pool contains over 100 alphabet tiles — the exact count depends on the chosen dictionary — each carrying a point value, plus 2 blank tiles. Blank tiles carry no points but may stand in for any letter.

Points awarded per turn depend on which tiles are used and which bonus squares they occupy. Playing all 7 tiles in a single turn earns an extra 55 points on top of the word score.

In Internet games, each player has 36 hours to place a word; failing to do so forfeits the game.

The game ends when a player runs out of tiles or after 3 consecutive passes. Final scores are adjusted: each player's total is reduced by the point value of their unplayed tiles, and a player who has used every tile gains the point value of their opponent's remaining tiles.

Any word in the chosen language is valid except proper nouns, abbreviations, and words written with apostrophes or hyphens. All cases, declensions, and tenses are permitted. Consulting a dictionary during play is not allowed.
