About Chess with a computer and for two: Classic Chess with Two Modes

Chess with a computer and for two brings the classic game of chess to a single device, letting you face an AI opponent or sit down with another person for a head-to-head match. Two distinct modes of play are available: against the computer or with each other on the same device. A player statistics section tracks your results over time, giving the game a sense of ongoing record-keeping beyond any single session.

How to Play Chess with a computer and for two

The objective is to checkmate the opposing king. Against the computer, five difficulty levels let you choose a challenge that matches your skill. The rules governing the game are specific and worth knowing before you play.

Win, Draw, and Tie Conditions

    • Checkmate: A player's king is under check with no legal escape — the game ends.
    • Stalemate: The game ends in a draw when a player has no legal move but is not in check.
    • Tie by insufficient material: A draw is declared when neither side has enough pieces to force checkmate. This applies to king versus king and bishop, king versus king and knight, and king and bishop against king and bishop when both bishops occupy the same color square.

Castling Rules

Castling involves the king and rook together. It can only be performed after all pieces standing between them have been removed. The king moves two squares toward the chosen rook, and that rook then jumps to the square the king crossed.

Castling is not permitted in any of the following situations:

    • The king or rook has already moved during the game.
    • The king is currently in check.
    • The king would pass through a square that is under attack.
